Hat tricks put Sailors on top of Western Slope League
Steamboat Springs junior Will Haden has six goals in his last two boys soccer games, coincidentally both against Palisade.
After helping lead the Sailors to a 5-3 victory in Palisade last week, Haden was once again the team’s leading scorer when Steamboat invited Palisade to Gardner Field on Saturday. The Sailors won 5-1 with three goals from Haden and the remaining two from sophomore Henry Jamison and senior Charlie Reisman.
“This means quite a bit to me,” Haden said. “Scoring three goals in a game is not an easy feat, and I’m glad I could do it twice.”
The Sailors have found themselves atop the 4A Western Slope division with a 5-1 league record and 6-2-1 overall record. Saturday’s game was a massive confidence boost for the team, which will host Battle Mountain for the Sailors’ homecoming game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The 8-1 Battle Mountain team defeated Steamboat 2-1 earlier this season, and the winner of Thursday night’s match will sit on the Western Slope throne for the time being. Haden said the Sailors are happy with where they are and will use the week to prepare for their biggest game of the year.
“This is a stepping stone for this coming week,” Haden said. “We played pretty well, struggled in the first half a little, but I thought we brought it in the second half.”
