Goalie Higbee gets revenge in Michigan

Goalie Tim Higbee got his revenge against his former team Wednesday when the Colorado Outlaws defeated the Marquette Electricians, 2-1, in overtime.

The Outlaws moved to 1-0 to open the 2004 National Midget Hockey Championships taking place in Marquette, Mich.

Higbee left Steamboat two years ago to play for the Marquette team in hopes of eventually playing in college and the NHL, but the Electricians cut him after one season.

Higbee moved back to Colorado last winter and joined the Outlaws based in Denver. Wednesday, he made 23 saves, as teammates Jeff Bieber and Chad Wetzel scored the game-tying and game-winning goals.

The Outlaws continue pool play this week with games against teams from Maryland and Minnesota. The top teams advance to a single-elimination bracket for quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

The Outlaws advanced to the national championship with a 4-1 defeat of Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountain District Championship.
