Girls lax falls at Palmer

Squad plays better in second half

Joel Reichenberger

— The Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team fell 22-4 Saturday playing on the road against Palmer in Colorado Springs. It was a tough loss coach, coach Betsy Frick said, but she said the team managed to take steps in the game.

The Sailors scored all four of their goals in the second half, and Frick said that wasn’t charity on Palmer’s behalf.

“Most people would look at that and say the other team backed off. They didn’t,” she said. “They kept their starters in and were still playing hard. Our players adapted well and were playing hot handed. I was very pleased with the level of improvement I saw.”

Becky Brown scored twice for Steamboat while Cassett Yeager and Maura Glynn each had one. Summer Dorr had 12 saves for Steamboat in goal.

The team, 1-7, next plays on the road Friday at Aspen.
