Girls lacrosse loses on the road

— The Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team lost Friday, falling 20-5 on the road against Grand Junction.

Coach Betsy Frick said Grand Junction, which will play for the league championship Monday in Aspen, excelled at moving the ball around the field and finding open shots in front of the net.

In spite of that, she said, her team played strong defense.

“I saw some of the best defense we’ve played this season,” she said.

Senior Becky Brown scored twice for the Sailors, while Lucy Shimek, Ellie Crouch and Maura Glynn each had one.

Steamboat, 5-9, will wrap up its regular season next week with a home rematch against Grand Junction.
