Girls lacrosse comes home 4-0

— They just keep winning, and Saturday, their fans will have a chance to see if the streak will continue.

The Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team won again Friday, knocking off Palmer, 12-11, on the road. The team also won Thursday, 16-3 against Eaglecrest, and now, the 4-0 Sailors return home to play at 1 p.m. Saturday against Durango.

The team got a big game in goal Friday from keeper Ava Thiel, who racked up seven saves.

“Everyone of them was important,” coach Betsy Frick said.

The team led at half 9-6, then hung on for the win.

The team got five goals each from Lucy Shimek and Riley Schott, then one each from Cassett Yeager and Wyleigh Myers.

Shimek had two assists and Schott one.

Against Eaglecrest, the Sailors ran away to win a game that was tied 5-5 at half.

Schott fueled the Sailor’s offense with eight goals. Shimek had six, with Yeager and Sammy Kennedy each adding one. Thiel
had five saves in goal, and the Sailors got a huge boost from their defense, which was led by seniors Maura Glynn and Sammy Koepher.

“The game against Eaglecrest was the most complete, well-played game in several years,” Frick said. “Maura Glynn and Sammy Koepfer did a great job leading an otherwise very young defense.”
