Get involved: Routt County volunteer opportunities

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Pilot & Today has partnered with Routt County United Way to offer a listing of volunteer opportunities across Routt County. For a complete list of volunteer opportunities and more information, visit RouttCountyUnitedWay.org.

Featured volunteer opportunity 

LiftUp of Routt County is in need of volunteers in the food bank. Shifts are scheduled with the volunteer coordinator. Fill out an application online or contact 970-870-0727 or volunteer@liftuprc.org.

Time-sensitive volunteer opportunities

• Partners in Routt County is in need of caring adults to be matched as a mentor to one of the 25 youths on the waiting list. Volunteers are asked to spend a few hours each week with a child ages 7 to 17 doing activities, helping with schoolwork and being a friend. Email julia@partnersrouttcounty.org to sign up.

• Routt County Council on Aging is in need of volunteers for about an hour one day per month to help seniors around the house, including changing light bulbs, moving items to lower shelves, changing smoke detector batteries and more. Email April at april@rccoaging.org or stop by the Council on Aging office in the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1597 Lincoln Ave.

• Mountain Village Montessori is in need of volunteers to teach or help with Wednesday Workshops. The weekly program is designed to enrich the lives of students in a creative and hands-on way. Workshop leaders are needed from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays from March 20 to May 22. Those with a trade, skill, hobby or interest to share with students ages 6 to 12 are encouraged to sign up. • Family Development Center is in need of volunteers for the annual Casino Night fundraiser. Volunteers will serve as dealers for blackjack, poker and roulette. Training is at 6:15 p.m. and the event is from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at The Steamboat Grand, 2300 Mount Werner Circle. Contact Tami at 970-879-5973 or thavener@familydevelopmentcenter.org.

• Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs is in need of energetic volunteers who want to work with children from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on school days. Opportunities include arts and crafts, homework help, physical education participation and various recreational activities. Contact Mariah at mmeeks@bcgnwc.org or 970-871-3185.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities

• Horizons Specialized Services participants are looking for opportunities to spend time in the community. Whether it be grabbing a cup of coffee, running an errand or cheering on the home team, the weekly one-hour outings will be structured around volunteer availability and shared interests.
