— Community members who are interested in the future of the trail system on Emerald Mountain are invited to take a quick field trip with the Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday evening.

The commissioners will get a close look at the proposed route of a new beginner trail that some local biking advocates say would provide an easier and more sustainable path up Emerald.

The city is seeking public comment on the proposal for a number of reasons.

If the trail is put in, it would likely lead to the closing of some existing trails on Emerald that follow the route of Nordic trails.

The trail could also have noise and visual impacts on the Brooklyn neighborhood, according to city staff.

Community members interested in learning more about the proposed trail and the potential impacts can meet up with the Parks and Recreation Commission at 5:30 p.m. in the stables parking lot at the base of Howelsen Hill.

The tour of the trail system is the only item on the commissioner’s agenda.
