Fourth of July traffic plans to stay the same

Traffic plans for the Fourth of July in Steamboat Springs will match last year’s with city streets between 12th and Fifth closed from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Traffic headed eastbound on U.S. 40 during that time will be sent onto Yampa Street via a right turn on 12th Street and will reunite with U.S. 40 with a left on Fifth. No parking will be available on 12th Street.

Westbound traffic on U.S. 40 will turn right on Fifth Street to meet up with Oak Street and continue down Oak to find U.S. 40 with a left on 12th. On-street parking on Oak will be limited due to the detour.

The Fifth Street Bridge will stay open to northbound traffic during the parade, and vehicles will be able to turn right from Yampa Street to access Howelsen Hill and the Brooklyn neighborhood.

Westbound traffic on U.S. 40 will not be able to turn left on Fifth Street, and motorists should consider using River Road to access areas south of the Yampa River.

Those looking to access areas north of downtown should take Third, Fourth or 12th streets.

Throughout the closure, bus stops for westbound Steamboat Springs Transit routes will be on Oak Street at Fifth, Seventh, Ninth and 11th. Eastbound SST routes will be on 11th, Ninth and Seventh on Yampa Street.

Extra buses will run during the day to help carry the load of parade viewers to and from the parade.

SST locations and times can be found at SteamboatSprings.net/transit or by calling 970-879-3717.
