— Mike Lane, who worked for 20 years as a member of the Steamboat Ski Area’s public relations team, has been hired as the city of Steamboat Springs’ communications manager — a new position created by City Manager Gary Suiter.

“The city of Steamboat Springs is committed to transparency and community engagement, and I believe that Mike has the experience and expertise to help us in these areas,” Suiter said in a news release. “I look forward to working with Mike as he evolves our ability to proactively get information out to the public while actively working to engage community members in their city government.”

Lane has lived in Steamboat Springs for over 22 years and has experience spearheading public relations, communications and social media, managing brand identity and reputation, developing community relations programs and carrying out public information officer and crisis communications activities.

In addition, Lane volunteers with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, Steamboat Chamber Resort Association, Ski/Ride 4 Yellow, Sunshine Kids and STARS.

Lane will start working for the city on Dec. 19.

He will make an annual salary of $88,101.
