Former Steamboat resident accused of child sex abuse

— A former longtime Steamboat Springs resident faces charges in Arapahoe County related to child sex abuse of a girl.

According to 9News, Bill Montag was arrested Thursday evening by Aspen police and has been charged with several counts of child sex abuse and incest. According to court records, the girl was 13 years old when the abuse started in 1993, and she was abused at least 50 times until she was 17 years old.

9News reported that the accuser came forward because she wanted to protect other girls from becoming victims.

Montag currently lives in Glenwood Springs and is the father of Holly and Heidi Montag, who is a reality television star. According to 9News, there are no abuse allegations from either daughter.

Montag recent worked at the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club.

Montag was very active in the Steamboat community. He was an Alpine ski coach for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, helped organize the annual 4-H scholarship fundraiser and assisted with the Fourth of July weekend Cowboys’ Roundup Days.

Montag also used to manage the Soda Creek Western Mercantile.

Since the charges are coming out of Arapahoe County, there is no indication that crimes occurred in Steamboat.
