Flower fundraiser orders due Thursday

Mike Lawrence

Spring may have just begun, but time is running out on an annual spring flower sale that benefits 10 local school and youth organizations.

Steamboat Springs Middle School, parent groups at Soda Creek Elementary School and Strawberry Park Elementary School, the South Routt School District, the youth group at Concordia Lutheran Church, Christian Heritage School and four Tier II sports teams at Steamboat Springs High School — girls softball, girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse and the rodeo team — receive much of their annual funds from the flower sale, which ends Thursday.

Sale organizer Mary Labor said prices have risen this year because of increased flower prices from the supplier.

“It’s a fine line between providing a good price on flowers and actually raising money for the schools,” Labor said.

The sale includes an 18-inch window box for $24, a 12-inch upright container for $32, a color bowl for $35 and a hanging basket for $22. Each of the items contains mixtures of flowers for sun or partial shade. Also being sold this year are a 10-inch hanging ivy geranium for $22 and a fluted white-glass vase with a calla lily bulb for $17.

Order forms can be picked up at schools in Steamboat Springs and South Routt or at Concordia Lutheran Church.
