CMC to host 2018 community business plan workshop Thursday
The Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center at Colorado Mountain College is hosting the seventh annual community business plan competition for 2018. This program promotes effective planning for new business startups.
Past winners have included Chill Angel, a merino wool sleepwear company, Grasssticks, a bamboo ski pole manufacturer, Balance Rider, a patented equine training device, Nelson Colorado, an outdoor wear company, and Mountain Pine Manufacturing. The incentive to complete a plan by a set deadline has encouraged a number of entrepreneurs to submit plans and further their business goals regardless of whether they won the competition.
As part of this competition, a business plan-writing workshop will be offered at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 19 in meeting room 127 at the Academic Center at CMC. Topics covered in this free workshop include identifying your target market, defining your product or service as a customer value, financial forecasts, operations, marketing and sales strategies. Call 970-870-4491 to register for the workshop.
The competition, sponsored by Startup Colorado with the city of Steamboat Springs, Alpine Bank and Mountain Valley Bank as prize sponsors, offers a $6,000 first-place prize and a $4,000 second-place prize. Plans are due by Oct. 1.
Finalists will present their business concept to a panel of business mentors from Yampa Valley SCORE in October. Visit coloradomtn.edu/yvec for contest rules.
