Flash flood watch issued for Steamboat Springs

Cars drive through standing water along Lincoln Avenue just west of downtown during last week's downpour. Forecasts are calling for more monsoon rain this week.
John F. Russell

— It may be wise to save that long afternoon hike or bike ride that’s still on your summer bucket list for later this week.

Monsoonal moisture is back in the forecast, and the likelihood of heavy rain has prompted the National Weather Service in Grand Junction to issue a flash flood watch for Steamboat Springs and most of Western Colorado.

The Weather Service said flash flooding will be possible Tuesday afternoon and evening as slow-moving storms enter the area.

Very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms could be the norm in Western Colorado for the first half of the week, and the likelihood of rain increases to 60 percent here on Tuesday, according to the forecast.
