Lightning storms across Northwest Colorado is the cause of several fires across the region Saturday, including one north of Craig that is estimated at 400 acres, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
No structures are damaged at this time, and no injuries have been reported.
A total of nine fires were ignited Saturday, according to the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit.
The largest fire, named the Four Mile Fire, sprung up Saturday afternoon near Moffat County Road 3, roughly 20 miles north of Craig off Colorado Highway 13.
“Residents in a structure about one half mile from the fire were escorted out of the area by the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office,” stated a BLM press release. “The fire was pushed in multiple directions by erratic winds from passing storms. Ordered for this incident are two BLM engines, two Moffat County engines, two road graders and one water tender also from Moffat County.”
Two single engine air tankers are also assisting with the fire. Representatives also noted agencies from Meeker, Rangley and Baggs, Wyoming, provided assistance.
Travel on Moffat County Road 3 has been restricted for now. As of Saturday evening, the fire was reported 10 percent contained at 450 acres.
Area firefighters also tackling a smaller outburst about one mile north of Maybell, the Boston Flats Fire, which as of Saturday evening is about 80 percent contained at 10 acres, another of many reports throughout the day.
The Craig Daily Press will have more on these developments as they progress.
