Exploration: Pink Floyd tribute band to play at Steamboat Ski Area

America’s top Pink Floyd tribute band, The Machine, has toured the world for over 30 years and appeared at music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Riverbend and Germany’s Rock of Ages, and this weekend, they’ll entertain Steamboat at the base of the ski area with a free concert. The New York-based band is known for its diverse mix of Pink Floyd’s 16-album repertoire that comes to life with an impressive light and multimedia show.
Junior Master Gardening Workshop
9 a.m. to noon | Saturday, Aug. 18 | CSU Extension Office, 136 Sith St.
Modeled after the Master Gardener program, the Junior Master Gardening Workshop offers horticultural and environmental science education through fun and creative activities for kids. This week’s theme is “Harvesting a Garden.” Young green thumbs will learn how to enjoy a garden’s harvest through activities like sampling the harvest, pressing flowers, making herbal tea, arranging flowers, storing seeds and more. Register at the CSU Extension office at 136 Sixth Street or call 970-879-0825. The workshop is open to third- to sixth-graders.
Free Weekend Yoga
Lay down your mat outdoors or indoors with a few of this weekend’s flow classes. These yoga classes are all-levels focusing on the simplicity of being alive and outside. Arrive early and be sure to bring a mat, water and an open mind.
Outdoor Yoga at the Top of the Gondola

An Evening of Jazz

Longtime Steamboat musician Marguerite Juenemann will be back on the Chief Theater stage this weekend. She plans to bring her selection of “oldies but goodies,” spanning the musical spectrum including samba, funk, swing and be-bop. She’ll also cover timeless jazz legends like Joni Mitchell, Mark Murphy, Chick Correa and Betty Carter.
Sunset Happy Hour
5 to 7:45 p.m. | Sunday, Aug. 19 | Steamboat Ski Area, Top of the Gondola
Take in the scenery, toast the sunset and listen to live music by Wish You Were Pink, a local Pink Floyd tribute band. Gondola boarding is from 5 to 7:45 p.m. The cost is $15 and includes a $5 credit toward food and drink. Free for pass holders.
