Englund earns first career podium

— Nita Englund jumped to a new height Sunday at a women’s ski jumping World Cup competition in Romania.

Englund, who trained with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, placed second in the competition, her fourth top-10 performance of the season, and easily, the best showing of her career.

The big result came a day after she placed 12th on the same hill in Rasnov, Romania.

“I sometimes get excited when I see the conditions get worse because it is something that does not bother me,” she said in a U.S. Ski Team press release. “I honestly did not know it was a one rounder until I got to the bottom. I was ready to do it again! I think the best thing was that I stayed calm and focused on keeping my jump like training. I am cherishing the moment and I don’t think it really sank in yet.”
