Emerald Mountain’s Lane of Pain Road scheduled to close next week

The City of Steamboat Springs and the Federal Aviation Administration will collaborate next week on road repairs to the Lane of Pain Road, which is used as an access road to the radio tower on Emerald Mountain. The radio tower is located on Bureau of Land Management land.

Starting from the Quarry to the top of hill around Orton Towers, Lane of Pain will be closed from 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 until about 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept 22. The road will remain closed to all users during this time depending on weather and progress conditions.

Currently, the road is unsafe due to washing out conditions, calling for crews to replace its water diversion structures.

Pedestrians and vehicles are strongly advised not to go past set closure barricades for safety purposes.
