Elkhead Reservoir boat ramp closes for season Sunday evening
October 14, 2018
CRAIG — At 7 p.m., Oct. 14, Elkhead Reservoir State Park will close the main boat ramp and Aquatic Nuisance Species inspection station for the season.
Current inspection hours at the boat ramp are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Due to unprecedented low water levels this year, the dock at the main boat ramp is no longer accessible.
Hand-launch opportunities are at the Northeast Access day-use region of Elkhead Reservoir. For vessels typically requiring an ANS inspection, inspections are available at the Yampa River State Park headquarters. Please call ahead at 970-276-2061 to confirm staffing and inspection availability.
Visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife boating inspection page for more information on the required ANS inspection process.
For waterfowl hunters, Elkhead Reservoir has changed zones this year, placing the park in the Eastern Zone of the Pacific Flyway.
Elkhead Reservoir State Park staff performed nearly 4,200 ANS vessel inspections this year and offer appreciation to the many boaters that visited for another safe and successful boating season.
