Electric Association members are being targeted by scammer
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Yampa Valley Electric Association is alerting members to a scam. Some members have been receiving phone calls from someone claiming they work for YVEA saying they need to collect payment or the person’s electric bill or power will be disrupted.
YVEA officials said they would never call customers and ask them to make a payment over the phone, though sometimes courtesy calls are made letting members know their bill is past due.
Those who make payments over the phone are sent to YVEA’s automated secure system, and account information must be verified in order to make a payment.
