Egg-cellent events and services going on this Easter Weekend
Steamboat Springs — Easter Weekend is here, and between dressing up in your Sunday best, chocolate bunnies, pastel-colored candies and Marshmallow Peeps will consumed in excess. Just want the Easter Bunny had in mind.
“One of my favorite things about Easter is watching the kids hunt for eggs,” said Alex Mathisen, an organizer for the North Routt Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast. “It’s just great to see them having so much fun, no matter what age they are. They love it.”
Another Easter tradition Mathisen recalls is decorating eggs with her family each year when she was growing up in England, and in preparation for the North Routt event, she has about five dozen eggs for children to decorate.
The North Routt festivities kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday with a Pancake Breakfast, followed by the Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m., at the Vista Verde Ranch. Snow permiting, Mathisen said attendees are invited to bring skis or snowshoes to use the trails at Vista Verde following the hunt. Classic Air Medical will also be landing its helicopter on site for everyone to see and tour. The North Routt fire trucks will also make an appearance. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children or $35 per family, with all proceeds benefiting the North Routt Preschool.
With 25,000 eggs full of sweet-treats for an annual gorge-fest, the Steamboat Christian Center will have its Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, with a helicopter adding hundred of new eggs to the hunt.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Steamboat Springs Middle School. Todd Gollnick, who helped organize the event with the Steamboat Christian Center, said the Easter Eggstravaganza will continue regardless of the weather. Children will be divided into four age groups that will start the hunt at varying times.
“It’s always fun seeing the kids and the smiles on their faces when that helicopter comes over and hovers down,” Gollnick said. “Seeing that amazement on their faces is a great sight to see.”
In addition, there will be bounce houses, face painting, a variety of children’s activities and a variety of donated prizes, including 100 bikes.
Registration is encouraged to automatically enter names for the bike raffle and to avoid long lines in the morning. For more information, visit steamboatchristian.com/eggstravaganza.
