Local resident earns collegiate award
Steamboat Springs resident Emma Simmins received an award for academic excellence from the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the award.
Steamboat resident graduates from college
Steamboat Springs resident Jasmine Davies graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango with a major in Spanish.
Resident graduates from Colorado State University
Steamboat Springs High School 2001 graduate Ryan Thompson graduated from Colorado State University on Friday with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He will now work on racehorses at the Equine Medicine Clinic near Lafayette, La. Thompson wants to thank area veterinarians, the 4-H program and the community for supporting his dreams of becoming a veterinarian.
Churchill named ‘Teen of the Month’
Steamboat Springs High School senior Kathryn Churchill has been named the Steamboat Springs Optimist Club’s “Teen of the Month” for May. Churchill has a 3.324 GPA and has been accepted to the University of Denver, where she plans to double major in biomedical science and French. Her goal is to work in medical research.
Churchill enjoys dancing, horseback riding, skiing, reading, writing and other outdoor activities. She also volunteered for six months with Steamboat Orthopaedic Associates to help with medical record support.
Hayden resident named to Dean’s List
Hayden’s Melissa Bowden was named to the Dean’s List at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., for the winter term. Students receiving this honor have earned a minimum GPA of 3.5. Bowden is a senior majoring in music and education.
