Doubles action set for weekend

— A number of local tennis players can be seen in action today at the Steamboat Tennis Association’s Old West Steak House Mixed Doubles Championships.

Jim Swiggart, director of the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs, said about 70 locals will take part in the tourney that starts at 4 p.m.

The tourney runs today, Saturday and Sunday.

Those taking part in the mixed doubles championships will compete in divisions based on the national tennis rating program’s system, Swiggart said.

The event will benefit the Steamboat Tennis Association, which sponsors local junior tennis and the Steamboat Springs boys and girls tennis teams, Swiggart said.

In the 5.0 and up division, Ed Mooney and Stacy Swiggart will be seeded first. Mooney and Swiggart are the returning champions of the 5.0 and up division.

Patty Kreutz and Casey Clagett will be the No. 2 seeds.

On July 20, another tourney the Steamboat Tennis Association Ore House Singles and Doubles Championships kicks off.
