Dorothea “Dotty” Oleta Thomas Graham: 1922-2005

Former Steamboat Springs resident Dorothea “Dotty” Oleta Thomas Graham died Sept. 25, 2005. She was 83.
Dorothea was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Pampa, Texas.
Dorothea attended elementary and high school in Pampa. She received her bachelor of science degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, majoring in home economics. Her graduate work was done at the University of Wyoming. She taught in Iowa, Steamboat Springs and Glenrock, Wyo.
While living in Glenrock, she was active in the Christ Episcopal Church of Glenrock, teaching Sunday School and participating in Episcopal Church Women and the Alter Guild.
She also was an active member of Glenrock Golden West Chapter No. 37 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was past matron of Glenrock, past appointed general officer and past grand representative of Wyoming.
After her husband, Fritz, retired from the NERCO power plant, they started traveling. They bought an Airstream and joined the Wyoming unit of the Wally Byron Airstream Caravan Club. Between the caravans and a few airplane trips, they were able to go to 49 states, Canada and Mexico.

Dorothea became the recording secretary and president of their Wyoming unit. She enjoyed traveling, seeing new places and meeting new people.
After selling their home of 29 years in Glenrock in 1987, they purchased a mobile home in an Airstream mobile-home park in Apache Junction, Ariz., where they joined friends they had met during their trips. They became members of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration of Mesa, Ariz.
Dorothea is preceded in death by her son Jan T. Graham; brother, Charles Thomas; and parents, Charles L. Thomas and Ouida T. Thomas.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred “Fritz” S. Graham; her daughter, Ouida M. Graham-Martens and her husband, Duane L. Martens, of Grand Lake; her son Joseph L. Graham and his wife, Emiko, and his children, Aiji K., Taki S., Seiji B and Yuki M., of Arvada; and her son Jene W. Graham of Austin, Texas.
Memorial services were held Oct. 8, 2005, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Glenrock. Members of Golden West Chapter No. 37 performed a memorial service before Father James Corbett’s service.
