A lightning strike started a 500-acre wildfire in Dinosaur National Monument’s Ecklund Draw last weekend in a remote portion of the monument on the Northwest Boundary.

Fire officials have been working to contain the flames all week.

The fire, called the Ecklund Fire, is not a threat to park visitors or structures, and all facilities are still open.

According to a National Park Service press release, fire activity has been minimal for the last two days, with no new fire growth. Total acreage for the fire remains at 526 acres.”

Suppression lines have been constructed around the fire. Steep cliffs and rocky outcrops contain the remaining portions.

This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

Monument staff will continue to monitor the fire by helicopter and fire lookout and take action as needed until the fire is officially declared extinguished.
