Colorado State Patrol troopers are trying to determine the cause of Tuesday’s crash that killed a 54-year-old Stagecoach man.

Deputy Routt County Coroner Mitch Locke on Wednesday identified the man as 54-year-old Robert Forrest Dickey, a longtime resident.

Dickey was driving a septic tank pump truck on Routt County Road 16 when it went off the road about a half mile from the Morrison Cove boat ramp at Stagecoach Reservoir. The crash was reported at 6:12 p.m.

Dickey was a long-time employee of Mountain Temp Services doing work for Nordic Pumping Service.

Cpl. Brian Bagley said Dickey’s truck approached a curve, and the truck continued straight off the road. It went down a steep embankment and rolled one and a half times before landing on the roof.

“We’re looking at several issues as to why that happened,” Bagley said.

An autopsy and toxicology tests will help determine how Dickey died.

Bagley said Dickey lived in the area where the crash occurred, but Bagley did not know where Dickey was driving.

Oak Creek Fire Protection District firefighters extricated Dickey from the truck. He was declared dead at the scene.
