On Tuesday, Northwest Colorado Health closed on the deal to purchase Casey’s Pond, saving the Steamboat Springs senior living community from receivership.

“Northwest Colorado Health signed and everything was closed and recorded Tuesday so it is officially complete,” said Traci Hiatt, director of philanthropy for the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.

YVCF spearheaded fundraising efforts to save the senior community after it was placed in receivership in June.

“It was truly a community effort. … This community came together to do something that, as far as we know, has never been done before,” Hiatt said. “We haven’t heard of any situation in the country where this has happened.”

She said the money — except for $2.5 million from the city of Steamboat Springs and $100,000 from Routt County — was contributed by more than 400 private individuals with donations ranging from $10 to several million. Those efforts raised more than $20 million dollars of the $27.6 million final sale price.

“It was incredibly complex, incredibly fast,” Hiatt said. “I mean, the speed at which this happened is just unheard of truly. It was an effort by many in really putting our heads down and focusing and working and collaborating, you know, for something that was complicated and a huge deal. All the partners who were working to make it happen, all the people who were working from different perspectives to make it happen, worked really well together and in good faith.”
