Cyclist hit by truck Thursday in downtown Steamboat Springs

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs resident Helen Beall was hit by a truck Thursday morning while cycling at Fifth Street and Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat.

After a morning ride on Emerald Mountain, Beall was riding her bike across Lincoln Avenue at Fifth Street toward Old Town. She had a green light and was riding on the right side of the lane of traffic when she was hit by a truck turning left from Fifth Street onto eastbound Lincoln Avenue, according to Steamboat Springs Police Department Officer Jordan Cyphers.

“This was an unfortunate accident, and it’s a good reminder to everyone to pay attention and to slow down for pedestrians and cyclists,” Beall said Friday.

She did not receive any major injuries in the crash.

The driver of the truck was cited for careless driving, Cyphers said.

“Especially downtown, pay attention to pedestrians and cyclists and make sure you’re double looking before you turn,” he said.
