Man suspected of sexual assault

— The Routt County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday arrested a 40-year-old Routt County man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman.

The man also faces charges of third-degree assault and felony menacing.

The woman was at the man’s house and had considered sleeping with him, according to an arrest affidavit.

At the man’s request, the woman entered the man’s bedroom. A struggle then ensued, and the woman reported the man was very aggressive and grabbed her, according to the affidavit.

The woman then escaped to the bathroom, and she sent text messages to her friend. The woman then left the bathroom and attempted to “talk down” the man, the affidavit states. The man responded by forcing her onto the bed, placing his hand around her throat and sexually assaulting her, the affidavit states.

“She punched him and kicked him repeatedly, ultimately freeing herself from him,” the affidavit states.

The woman’s friend then came and picked her up. The woman told the friend that the man grabbed her hair and held her by the throat, and the woman fought back as hard as she could, the affidavit states.
