Man dies while skiing at Steamboat Ski Area

— A man died Tuesday while skiing at Steamboat Ski Area, according to a news release issued by the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Routt County Coroner’s Office to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death is currently underway.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a witness reported that the man, who is believed to be approximately 70 years old, was skiing and fell, landing face down in the snow. The witness indicated the man did not collide with any fixed objects and did not hit any other skiers.



The exact location of the incident has not been determined. The Sheriff’s Office received the initial call at 2: 59 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
