Crash closes Rabbit Ears

An accident on Rabbit Ears Pass had U.S. Highway 40 shut down for several hours Tuesday night.

The accident involved a City Market truck and a tanker truck and occurred at about 7 p.m. Tuesday. Both lanes were closed as crews cleaned up the wreckage. A Hazardous Materials Team was on call but did not have to go to the scene, according to the Colorado State Patrol dispatch.

At least one person was taken to the hospital, dispatch reported.

One lane had reopened shortly after midnight, and both lanes were expected to be open by this morning.
