Craig woman hurt in crash

— An 18-year-old Craig woman was hurt Monday after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving on Routt County Road 27 and landed on a barbed-wire fence.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Tonya Cowan said Judith French was driving a 1990 Nissan Sentra south on C.R. 27 near Twentymile Road when she drifted off the road, blew out a tire and went over a ditch landing on a barbed-wire fence.

French sustained serious injuries and was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center, Cowan said.

Cowan would not elaborate on French’s injuries but said there were none she could see.

French was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. French was given a citation for careless driving.

Cowan said French most likely was not speeding at the time of the accident.

Cowan said muddy roads may have contributed to the accident; it had been raining most of Monday.
