Community Square Dance to take place

A Community Square Dance will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion on Friday.

Everyone in the community is invited. Pat and Wanda McBride, experienced teacher callers, will visit from Grand Junction to help with the event. Poker run to offer fun activity for charity

The Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club will sponsor its annual Poker Run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Freeman Reservoir Trailhead Parking Lot on Jan. 31. Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Card stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $10 for each hand or $25 for three. Proceeds go to the local students scholarship fund. An awards banquet will be held at 6 p.m. at the O.P. Bar & Grill, dinner will be available for purchase and prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m.

Yampa Valley Electric Association will host a grand opening celebration for the community-owned solar array.

Energy Collective, a Colorado-based group that aims to provide clean power generation to people regardless of housing ownership status, partnered with YVEA to build a solar garden in Craig.

The garden is an effort between the city of Craig, CEC and YVEA.

Elkhead Reservoir to be topic of CDP coffee event

CPW: Keep your dogs from chasing wildlife

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is issuing a warning to people whose dogs chase wildlife: Keep them under control and away from deer, elk and other wild animals, or face the possibility of steep fines and the loss of a beloved pet.

Dogs that chase wild animals can cause them extreme stress and injuries from bites, wildlife officials said.

By late winter, many big game animals that are susceptible to dog harassment are pregnant females. As they run to escape, deer and elk expend crucial energy that can lead to an increase in the mortality rate of the animals or their unborn calves and fawns.

To report any instance of dogs chasing wildlife, the public can call the local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office or Colorado State Patrol. In Colorado, the fine for knowingly or negligently allowing a dog to harass wildlife is $274, including surcharges.

CDP: Community photo submissions welcomed

The Craig Daily Press welcomes photo submissions from community members. If you have cool photos you took while on vacation, camping or hunting, or even photos of your child’s birthday party, submit them to editor@CraigDailyPress.com.

Photos must be at lease 1 megabyte in size and clear, meaning blurry photos should not be submitted. Include the name of those in the photo along with the date and place where it was taken. The newspaper prefers recent and timely photos.

AAA: Senior support tougher driving laws

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety’s latest report on aging Americans shows that senior drivers strongly support tougher driving laws, from bans on wireless devices to ignitions interlocks for first-time DUI offenders. The senior drivers also overwhelmingly support greater scrutiny in the license-renewal process for themselves and their peers. More than seven out of 10 drivers age 65 and older favor policies that require drivers age 75 and older to renew their license in person and also support requirements that seniors pass a medical screening to remain licensed.
