County approves rural Hayden bed and breakfast

The Routt County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve plans for an agriculturally-themed bed and breakfast operation, Horse & Hen B&B, on a 106-acre ranch along the Yampa River and just outside the town limits of Hayden off Routt County Road 80.

Ryan and Rachel Wattles plan to host as many as eight guests at a time in an existing home on their family’s historic ranch where they farm and tend a large herd of goats on behalf of another rancher. They also would host as many as 10 events per year, such as weddings and family reunions, for example. There would be no amplified music at those events.

The two-tiered vote of approval also included creation of a minor land preservation subdivision that will allow the Wattles to maintain three homes on the parcel while keeping the surrounding hay meadows and pastures intact.
