Cory Gardner: Bring us together
Coloradans are independent thinkers who expect candidates for office to present a clear and positive vision for the future of our state.
Too often in this campaign, the dialogue has focused on negative attacks that divide Coloradans instead of a positive vision that brings us together.
I think Colorado deserves better and that’s why I’ve proposed my Four Corners plan.
The Four Corners plan focuses on growing our economy, moving us toward North American energy security, improving education, and conserving our beautiful environment.
In order to get people back to work we must reform the tax code, making it flatter and fairer and designed to incentivize small business expansion through tax-free savings. Much of this is achieved by getting the federal government out of the way by relieving some of the duplicative and burdensome regulations imposed on our small businesses.
Obamacare’s mandates are stifling growth and development and our businesses are suffering; we must replace this law with common sense, market-based reforms that actually focus on the health care needs of individuals and ensure those with pre-existing conditions are covered.
As every Coloradan knows, our abundant natural resources keep Colorado at the center of the energy revolution in the United States and we must work to develop those resources responsibly. The Western Slope is a region that will benefit greatly from these investments, and I have strongly supported a true all-of-the-above energy policy that makes use of traditional and renewable sources. My legislation to expedite the approval of liquefied natural gas permits passed the House with strong bipartisan support and I have promoted the development of renewable technologies on federal lands, as well.
When it comes to education policy, we must keep Congress out of our classrooms. We should allow schools and states to spend funds as they see fit, offering greater flexibility to meet the needs of their students. Colorado knows what its students need better than Washington. We must offer our children the greatest opportunities available to them, including expanding school choice and promoting school programs that will give them the best chance at success.
Colorado’s environment is one of our most precious resources, and we should act accordingly to protect it for future generations. Water is the lifeblood of our state, and our next Senator must prevent a federal takeover of our water rights while maintaining responsible environmental practices. That is why I support Congressman Polis and Congressman Tipton’s bill to protect ski area water rights.
Public lands in Colorado are another important issue that demand attention in this race. I support healthy forest management policies that protect our public lands. Part of the Four Corners Plan includes the need for responsible wildfire prevention measures that protect our forests and private property. I’m currently cosponsoring Congressman Tipton’s healthy forest bill to promote better management of our public lands and address the issue of beetle kill.
As a United States Senator, I will always put Colorado first. When my party is wrong, I’ll say something. When something is broken, I’ll fix it.
Colorado deserves nothing less. I would be honored to have your support.
