Community raises $84K for tennis, pickleball endowment fund
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Maintenance Endowment Fund met and exceeded the largest matching challenge hosted at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation to date.
The challenge started in late August with a $25,000 match from local avid tennis and pickleball players Moz and Debbie Modzelewski. During the first week of October, the $25,000 match was met. The challenge was set to end Oct. 15, and the donations kept rallying until $42,100 was raised.
The Modzelewskis matched the entire amount to raise a total of $84,200. These gifts will continue to support future maintenance needs at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs in perpetuity. The fund balance is $109,103.
“Setting a goal to reach $50,000 and raising a total of $84,200 is fantastic,” Loretta Conway, vice president at the Tennis Center, was quoted as saying in a news release. “The entire community will benefit for years to come.”
“We are so thrilled with the broad response from the Steamboat community,” Debbie Modzelewski said. “The donations received were large and small, from full-time and part-time residents and from tennis and pickleball players. The Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Center is a genuine treasure, and we are fortunate to have the community support for the future of the center.”
The endowment’s goal was to reach $90,000 by the end of this year and $1 million by 2029. To learn more about the fund, visit YVCF.org/tennisandpickleballcenter or contact Helen Beall at helen@yvcf.org.
