Community members invited to sign up for Commuter Challenge
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — As part of the Climate Action campaign, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is organizing the Commuter Challenge to inspire the community to use alternative transportation from May 27 to June 27.
Transportation currently accounts for 27% of carbon emissions in the U.S. Shifting away from private vehicles and into more efficient modes of transportation is a critical climate action strategy that anyone can be part of and can significantly reduce carbon emissions.
The Commuter Challenge is a friendly competition that encourages people to leave the car at home and walk, bike, bus or carpool. Family teams, adult teams and solo participants commit to greening their commute at least once per week and compete to win prizes donated by local businesses.
The challenge also includes several social events that count toward participant point totals. For more information and to sign up, visit yvsc.org.
