Community invited to celebration of life ceremony for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club coach
A celebration of life ceremony for Andy Michnay, a Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club freeski coach who died suddenly this week, will be held on Friday, Jan. 17.
Michnay began his career with the SSWSC in 2015 and was promoted to a leadership position as the director of the freeski program in 2022.
A news release from the club noted Michnay “touched the lives of thousands in the community.”
“His colleagues remember Andy as a generous and kind soul who always gave the time and energy to listen and help others. He went above and beyond for his athletes and coaches and set an example for everyone around him,” according to a statement from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
The club also noted how Michnay’s impact, connections and family “extended far beyond SSWSC to his roots in Wisconsin, his time at Colorado Mountain College, working and playing golf at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club, and much more.”
“Andy’s calm and gentle leadership and presence are deeply missed by everyone at Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and his loss is felt by many,” added the statement.
Members of the community are welcome to attend the celebration of life ceremony for Michnay, which will take place at 4p.m. on Jan. 17 in Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill.
