Next week, you might notice a banner over Lincoln Avenue that reads “Naked & Hungry … where would you be without agriculture?” We ask you, fellow people of the Yampa Valley, to consider this statement and help us celebrate agriculture March 19 through 25 as Community Agriculture Alliance partners with local businesses sponsors for Ag Appreciation Week.

This year, we have lots of events, including Ag Heritage Story Telling on March 20; a documentary screening of “At The Fork” on March 23; and Sheep Tales from Margaret Duncan Brown on March 22. Our complete list of events can be found at

Also, be sure to eat at restaurants that are featuring a local food specials — Big House Burgers, Creekside Café, Drunken Onion, Dude & Dan’s, The Laundry, Mazzola’s, Rex’s, Sharon’s and Salt & Lime. A portion of the proceeds from the specials will go to CAA.

We also have thee unique events this year, Colorado Land Link Forum, Yampa/White Basin Ag Producers’ Water Future workshop and Protecting Your Legacy: Estate Planning workshop.

The Land Link Forum, set for March 18, matches farmers and ranchers seeking land opportunities with landowners or retiring producers who are open to transitioning their land. Registration can be completed at

The Colorado Ag Water Alliance hosts the Yampa/White Basin Ag Producers’ Water Future Workshop, on March 22, which will include brief, highly focused presentations and panel dialogue covering the basics, followed by an opportunity for ag producers to ask questions and engage in dialogue about what they see as opportunities and barriers and how those opportunities and barriers might best be addressed. Registration can be completed at

The estate planning workshop, set for March 24, will feature Whitney Neelis, of 360 Insurance, and Catherine Swan, of Swan Law, who will discuss protecting homes, assets, and family and succession planning. Email to register.

Don’t miss out on our events that include local foods, such as a Taste of Routt County on March 17 at the Tread of Pioneers Museum, where there will be soups from local Routt County family recipes, including those using local game. Nancy Mucklow and friends will discuss the history of soups and their importance to Routt County families, especially cowboys and ranchers.

And speaking of cowboys, get your best-looking flannel out of the closet and put on your boots for the Western BBQ. This event, set for April 1, is held at the top of the gondola and includes a buffet with a live Western rock band and a fun family setting looking over the lights of the valley below. Children age 12 and younger are free when accompanied by an adult.

We are pleased to announce Tyller Gummersall, sponsored by Alpine Bank, will be in concert March 24. Gummersall is a country singer/songwriter who has been performing since he was 8 years old. This special event will be held at the Steamboat Art Museum from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at

Thank to all who help make Ag Week happen. We always look forward to this time of year to see how our community proudly supports local agriculture and the CAA.
