— The Board of Routt County Commissioners approved an increased hire rate for Joe DeAngelo, should he accept the job as undersheriff. Sheriff-elect Garrett Wiggins asked commissioners to hire DeAngelo at Step 5, or $79,539 a year. Commissioners must approve any hires above Step 3, which is $74,630 for the undersheriff position.

DeAngelo is working as an investigator with the Colroado Attorney General’s Office. He said Monday that he has several factors to consider before he decides about the Routt County job.

Routt County Human Resources Director Chris Hensen said the approval is only valid for DeAngelo; if DeAngelo declines the job and Wiggins must find another candidate, he would have to reapply for the increased hire rate.
