Cold temps to persist in Steamboat this week

Cold weather is anticipated this week in the Steamboat Springs area on the heels of a storm that brought considerable snowfall to the Steamboat Resort over the weekend.
The storm over the weekend brought 28 inches to the top of the resort by Sunday morning, with 17 inches of that snowfall occurring after the lifts closed Saturday, according to local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth.
According to Weissbluth, who posts twice-weekly local forecasts to SnowAlarm.com, the snowfall came, at times, at a rate of 6 inches per hour at the resort.
The local meteorologist said a low-pressure system over most of North America will reinforce an arctic air mass this week that will bring colder temperatures and the chance for some light, high-elevation snowfall on Tuesday.
Low temperatures below zero are expected through Wednesday morning, with high temperatures downtown hanging in the teens, “but a storm extending southward from the Aleutian Islands is forecast to move eastward through the workweek, forcing the ridge of high pressure toward our area,” said Weissbluth.
“We should see mostly sunny skies by Wednesday afternoon that last for Thursday, helping temperatures to approach average on Wednesday and several degrees above average on Thursday,” he added.
