CMC’s Steamboat land purchase not closed as scheduled

— A clear title to 1.49 acres at 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue that Colorado Mountain College planned to buy was not available by the closing date of July 30. Because of that, the closing on the Steamboat Springs parcel did not take place as scheduled, according to a news release from CMC.

“Having clear title by the closing date is a standard expectation when anyone purchases a piece of property,” college President Stan Jensen said in the release. “We are optimistic that this is a minor bump, that the title can soon be clarified and that we will be able to move forward in continued discussions with the city.”

The college’s Board of Trustees voted July 14 to buy the land owned by Harry and Mary Dike, of Steamboat. The parcel would be home to a secondary access road required by the city so CMC can build a 45,000-square-foot geoexchange facility on the Alpine Campus off Bob Adams Drive.

CMC President Stan Jensen said at the time that the college would pay more than $2.4 million for the 1.49-acre property. As part of the agreement, he said the Dikes would gift $600,000 to the college.

Administrators at Colorado Mountain College are planning for a new student services and academic building to be built on the southwest section of the college’s 65-acre campus in Steamboat, according to the release.
