Club athletes earn trip to Worlds

Joel Reichenberger

— Four Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Nordic combined and special jumping athletes will compete this winter in the Junior World Championships.

Results from a competition last week in Lake Placid, New York, sealed the trip for Jasper Good, Ben Berend and Koby Vargas on the Nordic combined side and Logan Sankey in women’s ski jumping.

Sankey is the first Winter Sports Club athlete to make it to the event in women’s ski jumping.

Steamboat only missed out on a fifth qualified athlete when Nicholas Madden withdrew with an injury. He was qualified to make the trip, as well.

The athletes will travel next month to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
