Steamboat Springs — Rotary Club names student of the month
Steamboat Springs High School senior Austin Anderson was named the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club Student of the Month for November.
Anderson has an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and is ranked in the top 10 percent of his graduating class.
Anderson is a two-time state qualifier and four-year member of the high school’s Knowledge Bowl team. In addition to being the captain of this year’s Knowledge Bowl team, Anderson is a member of the high school forensics team, the news editor for The Periscope, the high school newspaper, and a flutist. Last year, Anderson was named to All-State Band.
Outside of school, Anderson is active in the Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association and various community service endeavors. Anderson has played hockey since first grade and currently competes on a club team.
Before his junior year, Anderson spent more than 100 hours working on a Habitat for Humanity house. He also has volunteered at his church and at the elementary school level.

“It is clear that Austin is highly involved with many things. However, I always get the clear impression from him that school and learning are really what he is all about,” said Gayle Dudley, career and college counselor at the high school. “They are the primary focus of his life. I feel confident that Austin will excel on any college campus that he chooses.”
Steamboat school district wants your say
The Steamboat Springs School District would like input from community members as it moves forward with its elementary school projects.
The public is invited to a forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at the George P. Sauer Human Services Center to discuss plans for the new Soda Creek Elementary School and the renovations to the Strawberry Park Elementary School.
Thursday’s community forum at the district offices on Seventh Street will be the final forum before construction begins.
