Rotary Club names Student of the Month

The Steamboat Springs Rotary Club has named Tanner Stillwell its Student of the Month for September.

Lonn Clementson, Tanner’s anchor teacher and assistant football coach, said: “In speaking of Tanner, my first thoughts are of his outstanding character. As his anchor teacher and coach, I am in my fourth year of witnessing Tanner display high standards of character both in the classroom and on the playing field. As a consummate team player, his fellow teammates and classmates look to Tanner for guidance in times of adversity.

“He is a leader by example and is also willing to share his wisdom for the benefit of all. As with all high school students, Tanner is faced with many decisions and makes choices that create win-win situations. In a time when character is becoming more valued by society, Tanner is able to flourish simply by being himself.”

In addition to being the quarterback of the Sailors varsity football team and member of the varsity basketball team, Tanner has an innate ability and desire to perform well in the classroom.

He maintains a 3.85 gpa and was featured in the Denver Post for his academic excellence in addition to his athletic ability. Last year, Tanner was awarded an academic letter for his success in school. His academic success is a direct result of his work ethic.

Tanner’s maturity is beyond his years, and he has served as an excellent role model in and out of school.

He also is an incredible big brother to his younger sister, who is a sophomore at the high school. He is always willing to make a sacrifice to put his family first.
