SAILORS EARN HONORS AT KNOWLEDGE BOWL

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSSenior Ben Beall, senior John Hottenroth, junior Joe Cutler and sophomore Christian Hogrefe competed recently in the Knowledge Bowl state meet at Adams State College. The team finished in the top half of all the schools and 11th among the other 4A schools. Steamboat scored a 38 and 42 out of 60 questions, and scored a 7, 8, 9, 11, 15 and 19 on the oral rounds. The overall winner was Grand Junction, a 5A team, with 228 points.

VALENTINE GRADUATES FROM MSU-BOZEMAN
BOZEMAN, MONT.Heidi Leigh Betz Valentine of Steamboat Springs graduated from Montana State University at Bozeman May 12. MSU-Bozeman conferred 1,915 bachelor’s degrees at the 105th annual commencement.

HAYDEN STUDENTS WIN IN POETRY CONTEST



STEAMBOAT SPRINGSAshley Jensen, a junior at Hayden High School, won in the Creative Communication poetry contest. Jensen submitted her poem “To Be ,” making this her third published poem in the past two years. Amanda Sumerlin, a freshman at Hayden High School, also won in the Creative Communication poetry contest. Sumerlin submitted her poem “Fall Colors,” making this her second published poem. Poems will be published in the book “A Celebration of Young Poets.”
