City planners close to finalizing CD Code

— After two months of special meetings with both the City Council and Planning Commission, the city planning department is almost ready to get the new Community Development Code nailed down for good.

The planning department is still finishing up meetings with the commission, which will look over the code again at 6 p.m. today at Centennial Hall, but the planners finished their article by article overview with City Council this Monday.

Some of the more dicey issues will be discussed this month and in early June, including nightly rentals, set for May 21, and the treatment of zone districts such as the gondola districts and Commercial Yampa. After those issues are tackled, the planning department will hold a series of large public workshops, which will be set up in the morning, afternoon and evening to make sure people can get to see what changes were made.

Based on Planning Director Wendie Schulenberg’s preliminary schedule, the code should be reviewed for adoption by City Council initially on July 10 and for final reading July 23.
