City offers update on Yampa project

Construction of the Yampa Street Improvements Project will continue the week of Aug. 8.

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 8, Yampa Street will continue to be closed to vehicular traffic between Eighth and Ninth streets, including the Ninth Street intersection.

The north side sidewalk on this block of Yampa Street will also be closed, and pedestrians will be safely rerouted to the south side of the street. Construction work in these areas includes the infrastructure necessary to support moving electric utilities, as well as some storm drainage utility work and concrete streetscape.

Additionally, the shoulder of the road will be closed near the corner of Sixth and Yampa streets to allow for work on concrete streetscape in this area.

Construction work in this area includes curb and gutter, a retaining wall and reconstructing a driveway at Bank of the West. Access to the Bank of the West drive-through window and parking lot will remain open, and Yampa Street will remain open to both directions of traffic through this block.

Maintaining access to all businesses is a priority. Signage and wayfinding will continue to be installed during the required closures. For safety, the city asks visitors, employees and residents to respect closures and use designated detours and parking areas.

Shoppers and visitors are reminded that additional nearby parking is available at the 10th and Yampa Street parking lot, the rodeo grounds parking lot and Howelsen Hill parking lots, with easy access to Yampa Street by way of the Ninth of Fifth street bridges.

Construction work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.

Duckels Construction is continuing work between Eighth and Ninth streets to install an underground conduit system that will allow electric lines to be moved underground on Yampa Street. As the work progresses, Duckels will also be installing storm sewer lines and inlets. As the work progresses in the Eight to Ninth Street block, crews will begin installing concrete curbs and gutters, as well as sidewalks and street trees and lighting.

An unrelated construction project by Fox Construction is nearing completion on private property between Ninth and 10th streets.

Bi-weekly public information meetings are scheduled for

9 a.m. Fridays. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12 at Aurum Food & Wine, 811 Yampa St.

A construction hotline will be updated frequently; the number to call is 970-871-7052. Information on the overall project is available on the city’s website at diggindowntown.com.
