Chris Hart: Stop the legislating

To the editor:

I just noticed this week the new “No smoking” signs on the lift poles that have been placed on the mountain.

Here are the problems: This is a totally unenforceable rule. Can the city enforce an ordinance on land it doesn’t own? It is National Forest, is it not?

And when did we become a society where legislating every possible activity is a good thing? What will the city do next? Prosecute me for public urination if I stop to pee in the woods? Let’s try to worry about ourselves and not what everyone else is doing.

Heck, I’m not even a smoker.
