Chix stick it to Fort Collins

The Chix with Stix women’s hockey team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend in Fort Collins.
The Chix defeated the Flames, 3-1, on Feb. 27 and, 4-2, on Feb. 28.
In Friday’s win, three Chix players on the team’s first line scored. Heidi Chapman and Renee Dupre scored in the first period off assists from Jen Travis and Chapman, respectively.
Travis scored the Chix’s final, unassisted goal, an empty-netter, in the closing seconds of the game, after the Flames pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie.
Steamboat goalie KC Amon turned away 35 of the 36 shots she faced.
In Saturday’s two-goal win, nine players scored goals for Steamboat as the Chix amassed 31 shots on goal.

The Chix took an early two-goal lead, both scored less than two minutes into the first period. Dupre found the back of the net at the 11-minute, 10-second mark off a pass from Travis.
Sue Heineke scored her first goal of the weekend at the 9:26 mark off a pass from linemate Lisa Owen.
Fort Collins scored its first goal two minutes later, but the Flames couldn’t narrow Steamboat’s early lead.
Diane Dwire netted the Chix’s third goal on a Steamboat power play midway into the second period off an assist from Chapman.
Steamboat’s final score was also on a power play. Lynne Bosley took passes from Karen Post and Gretchen Van De Carr at the 7:33 mark for her first score of the weekend.
“All three lines scored, and that’s the way it should be,” Steamboat coach Tim Shorland said.
Amon turned away 30 of the 32 shots on goal she faced Saturday.
