Children’s Health Fair offers free testing

Nick Foster

— For no charge, Hayden children from birth to 5 years old can attend a Children’s Health Fair at Hayden Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 10.
In one-hour sessions, children will be tested for vision, hearing, height, weight, language, physical health and thinking skills.
The Board of Cooperative Educational Services and Horizons are sponsoring the free event to promote good health in the children, help give them an opportunity to excel in school and fill the Hayden Elementary Preschool Program, said Charla Kendrick, director of the Hayden preschool program and a BOCES staff member.
If children tested come in below a certain standard, they might be eligible for free special education, Kendrick said. Another way to attend preschool for free is by filling out a form provided at the screening, in which parents can evaluate their child. Still, preschool tuition is just $8 per three-hour session at Hayden Elementary.
About 24 to 28 children will be screened, so people interested should sign up immediately at the elementary school. Space is limited.
